there's STILL time to knit!!

I made this Neck warmer in a couple of hours Saturday night before I went Christmas shopping! I used Katia Fabula and a size 17 circular needle. The yarn was great to knit with and it only took two skeins!
Come by the shop to see and feel my neck warmer. The cables look better in person!

Here's the pattern:

Cabled Neck Warmer

C4: Place 2 stitches on cable needle, hold in back, knit next 2 stitches, knit the 2 stitches from cable needle

Cast on 48 stitches with a size 17 circular needle 16 or 24 inches long.

Join and work k2 p2 rib for 4 rounds.

Round 5: *K2, p1, inc 1. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 60 stitches.
*I increased by doing a lifted increase, but you may also knit into the front and back of the stitch.

Round 6 (Rib round): *k4, p2. Repeat from * to end of round.

Round 7 (Cable round): *C4, p2. Repeat from * to end of round.

Round 8- 11: work Rib round.

Round 12: work Cable round.

Repeat rounds 8-12 again

Next round: * k2, p1, p2tog. Repeat from * to end of round. 48 stitches remain.

Work k2 p2 rib for 4 rounds. Bind off loosely in rib pattern.

Enjoy!!

Time To Knit!

Doesn't this cold weather make you want to sit by the fire and knit?

I spent a snowy Saturday evening making these cup cozies. They will be stuffing the stockings at my house along with a gift certificate to our favorite neighborhood coffee shop. The pattern is from the book Knitted Gifts by Ann Budd. We have this book for sale at the shop. The pattern is a free pattern on Knitting Daily.

Glitzy scarves are another fun thing to make this time of year. I made this mesh scarf to wear to a holiday party. The pattern is easy! I've written it out below. Come by the shop to pick out your yarn and we'll give you a copy.

Mesh Scarf

Cast on 23 stitches (or any odd number)

Row 1: K3, *k2tog, yo, repeat from * until 2 stitches remain, k2

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: K2, *k2tog, yo, repeat from* until 3 stitches remain, k3

Row 4 and all even numbered rows: Purl

Repeat these 4 rows until desired length. Bind off and block to open up lace pattern.

I used a size 10 needle. Adjust your needle according to the thickness of your yarn and the openness desired.

Our friend Cindy has made this beautiful scarf using the Branching Out pattern from Knitty.com The sparkle doesn't photograph quite as pretty as real life. It looks like a scarf a winter fairy would wear.

We have lots of other ideas for easy quick knits: fingerless gloves, dish and face cloths (add a bar of fancy soap and you have a great hostess gift!) and lots of fun hats!

If all this makes you want to learn to knit NOW, call the shop at 336-765-9099 and schedule a beginner private lesson. We can have you knitting a simple scarf out of a beautiful luxurious yarn in a hour!

New Fabric Friday

The UPS Man has brought us lots of big, heavy boxes this week. This means new fabric! (Yarn boxes are bigger, but lighter!)

Summertime by Quilt Soup

Soul Blossoms from Amy Butler!!!!

Morris Tapestry from Moda

Cute floral and companion for smockers and quilters.

I love it when we get something for everyone! The UPS man may be as popular as Santa when that brown truck full of big boxes pulls into our parking lot.

Have a great weekend. Next post will be for Knitters!!!
