Smocking, Embroidery and Quilting Classes for October

Smocking and Embroidery


Beginning Smocking $45 plus supplies for 2 sessions, Thursday, October 1 and 8, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

Smocking is fun! Learn the stitches to make garments better than the ones you see in the stores. You will be ready to smock most geometric designs after completing this sampler. Bring small scissors.



Bishop Dress 4 sessions, $50 plus supplies. Monday, October 12, 19, November 2, and 9, 6-8:30 p.m.


Make a bishop dress from start to finish even if you've never sewn before! If you are an experienced seamstress, there will be lots of new techniques to learn. This is a great first smocking project. Supply list provided when you register.

Yoke Dress or Bubble 4 sessions, $50 plus supplies; Thursday, October 22, 29, November 5 and 12, 6-8:30 p.m.

A yoke-style dress, romper, or bubble can be make for special occasions or for play. Learn all the techniques to make a beautiful garment. For advanced beginners. Supply list provided when you register.




New! Lace Collar 1 session, $25 plus supplies; Thursday, October 15, 6-8:30 p.m.

Learn the techniques to make the beautiful lace collar pictured on the cover of Australian Smocking issue #87!


Beginning Embroidery $30 includes kit. Sunday, October 4, 2-4:30 p.m.

Come learn the basics of embroidery while stitching a cute snowman in redwork or bluework . Your pattern, fabric, and needles are included. Bring small scissors to cut threads.

Embroidery Workshop $15 per session plus supplies
Meets monthly: Monday, October 26, 6-8:30 p.m. OR Friday, October 9, 12:00-2:30 p.m.

Join us on the fourth Monday or second Friday of each month for stitching time and fellowship! Learn how to prepare your project for embroidery or get help with embroidery you are already working on. Each month Martha will teach you a new embroidery technique or tip to make your stitching more enjoyable.

Beginning in September, the group will begin a beautiful Jacobean leaf sampler featuring new stitches each month. Come see what everyone is making!

Smocking Workshop
$10 for 1 session or $30 for 4 sessions.
Available sessions: Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 p.m. OR Wednesdays 6-8:30 p.m. OR Thursdays 10 a.m. -noon

Come join Martha for some quality sewing and smocking time. Work on the project of your choice and enjoy the fellowship of others. Call the shop at least one day before the session to reserve your space.


Quilting Classes




New! Country Sunshine Block of the Month $25 per session for 5 sessions plus supplies

Join Kathleen as she shows you how to applique this beautiful quilt. She will help you "custom size" your piece and share her tips for successful applique and piecing over this five month class. This is an intermediate applique class. Kits are available. Come see the custom quilted sample in the shop. Class will meet the third Friday evening of each month from 6-8 p.m. or the fourth Monday from 1-3 p.m. Limit 6 students per class.


Quilting Bee $20 per session: Thursday, October 15, 6-8:30 p.m. or Friday, October 16 9:30 a.m.-noon.

Kathleen will spend the first 30 minutes on a "skill builder" and then you can work on any project you like. Sign up early, as the class is limited to 6 students. Sewing machines are welcome!


Beginner Applique $50 includes a pre-washed kit. 2 sessions: Tuesday, October 6 and 20, 1-3:30 p.m.

This is the class for serious applique. Learn the freezer paper technique for the first in Kathleen's series of applique blocks. Learn how to make bias stems, needle turned dragonfly bodies, and perfect points. Come see the sample at the shop. Limit 4


Beginner 9-patch $60 plus supplies. 4 sessions, Tuesday, October 6, 13, 20, and 27, 6-8:30 p.m.

This class teaches the basics of machine piecing. Learn how to select colors, strip cut, chain piece, and add mitered borders. You'll learn lots and end up with a beautiful 9-patch quilt. Limit 4 students.



Bow tucks Tote $4o plus supplies. 2 sessions, Monday, October 26 and Wednesday October 28, 2-4 p.m.


This tote is really functional, with lots of interior pockets, and looks more like a purse. You'll have your purse completed in one week! Sewing machine required.
