Stitching therapy

I read this on Flylady.net the other day:

"What I'm doing to pamper myself this holiday season is to knit!
I love to knit but my other responsibilities throughout the year often preclude it. So I dec
ided that I would knit at least three times a week throughout this holiday season. I decided that instead of trying to make a large project, I'd make Christmas Ornaments that are mini-sweaters, each one different.

In just the last week and a half, from doing this, I've made 20 ornaments and mastered three new knitting techniques that I've been wanting to do for ages! The ornaments are so small that I can get a good portion of them knitted in a 15-minute block, and one day when I had a lot of waiting time, I carried the knitting along with me and made 3 of them while I would have otherwise been bored or irritated by "wasting time" waiting. Instead I was calm and happy.

Bernadette
"

I 'll bet Bernadette is doing something like these.

What kind of stitching activity pampers you? I love to look through my old smocking and knitting magazines and find new projects and Shirley likes to look though her quilt books.

Susann likes to work with her orchids and talk to her grandchildren, which leads her to her applique books to create more cute outfits like these:

Tell us your favorite way to spend some stitching time!

911 for your projects!

We had a special visitor at smocking workshop the other day: Patsy's new granddaughter! Peggy gave her a lesson on the machine.

You never know who is going to show up for workshop and what new projects you will see! This time of year workshops are full of stitchers finishing up good things for Christmas. Some people come each week just to have some uninterrupted stitching time and fun with fellow stitchers.

If your project needs rescuing or just a little push to get it going again, We have a workshop to fit you schedule.
Call the shop at 336/765-9099 to reserve your seat. Most sessions are limited to 6 students so that we can make sure that everyone gets the help they need, so you need to sign up each week.

Knitting workshops are Monday evenings, Tuesday mornings, or Thursday afternoons.

Smocking workshops are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings.

Teachers are available at other times for one-on-one sessions. Call the shop to schedule a lesson.

Fair Winners!

We are so proud of our customers who entered items in the Dixie Classic Fair! Our two youngest winners, Hannah and Connor, designed and machine appliqued their own quilts. They are both 5 years old, and these are not their first sewing projects. We are soooo proud of them!!

On our Flickr page you can view pictures of the projects of our other fair winners: Patricia, Betsy, and Paula won for their smocked dresses; Jennifer Carpenter won for her Christmas Stockings and a beautiful sweater (pictures to follow!) and Jennifer Edwards won awards for her painting. Painting as in Art, not the kind that I do on my walls! Click on the flickr badge located in the right-hand column of this page (the block of photos that says "what is this?") to view the fair winners and other photos from the shop.

Jennifer Edwards has just opened an online store to sell her own crochet and knit patterns, Yarnworks by Jennifer
You can view and purchase her patterns and link to her blog and art sites. Congratulations, Jennifer!

As more winners bring in their items for us to photograph, we will add them to our flickr page.

Congratulations to all!!
