Retro fabric and a retro recipe

What does a creative person do when it's too hot even look outside? Plan a new project!!
I just finished my blue quilt (it's being quilted as we speak!!) and have almost finished piecing another one (I'll show you next week)...so of course its time to start another.

I just LOVE this vintage-y fabric from Piece O' Cake Designs and I've found a great appliqued quilt to go along with it. I ordered the pattern and I can hardly wait for the UPS man to deliver it!!

I've cut all my fabric plus enough for three more kits. See--I'm always thinking of you, too! I'm washing my fabric this weekend so that I can begin next week when the pattern arrives.

While my fabric is washing, I'll make this frozen salad of Shirley's. Jandell is making it for her salad supper party this weekend, so I'm going to make it to go with my pulled pork on Saturday night.

Shirley's Frozen Fruit Salad

1 Knox Gelatin packet
2 cups Sour Cream
¾ cup sugar
2 Tbls Lemon Juice
1-15 oz can crushed pineapple, drained
½ cup maraschino cherries--I have some fresh cherries that I might use instead.
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
3 diced bananas

Combine sour cream, sugar and lemon juice in a large bowl. Add gelatin and mix. Fold in remaining ingredients. Pour into muffin tins lined with cupcake papers. Freeze until firm. Remove from freezer 20 minutes before serving. makes 18 "muffins"

Happy stitching (and staying cool!)

Ripples

The Warren Jacket

Spring and Summer sweaters can be a challenge for our climate, but we often need something extra on our shoulders when in chilly air conditioned spaces. Any yarn that knits up quickly is usually too heavy, but not Ripple by Tahki. It is all cotton, drapey and knits to a worsted gauge.

This sweater is taking the country by storm!

We have the yarn and the pattern in stock now. Our knitting teachers Lisa and Jennifer are both making new garments. Jennifer is making the Warren Jacket and Lisa is using the Ripple yarn to make the Tessa Vest.

Come see us and check it out!

A Saturday at Home and a Tip for You!

The shop is closed today for the Easter Holiday. My plan was to be outside weeding flowerbeds and planting some herbs. I made those plans the other day when it was 80+ degrees and sunny. Today my computer says that it is 53 degrees and drizzly. Later the sun is supposed to come out, but until then I'm having fun in my sewing room!

Susann made this kit for my new quilt--yummy colors selected by Jandell and Shirley!

I'm working on a quilt for our booth at the Heart of the Triad Quilt Show--only three weeks away!!!

I'm also finishing up this dress for my Tea Towel Bishop class next Saturday morning!

Here's your tip, taught to me by Shirley: Before prewashing fabrics, always cut off the corners of each piece of fabric. I usually trim about a one inch wedge off each corner. No more knots of raveled, tangled, threads!

Enjoy the weekend!
