May Classes

Here's the Class schedule for May.  Come join us!

Classes for Smocking and Embroidery


Beginning Smocking $50 includes supplies. 2 sessions, Tuesday, May 14 and 21, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. 
Smocking is fun! Learn the stitches to make garments better than the ones you see in the stores. You will be ready to smock most geometric designs after completing this sampler. Bring small scissors. Instructor: Martha Neely 

French Handsewn Bonnet $35 plus supplies. 2 sessions, Friday, May 10 and 17, 10 a.m.- noon 
Learn the art of french hand sewing while making this sweet smocked bonnet. You'll learn how to roll and whip, attach lace, make pintucks and more! French handsewing is easy and fun. You'll have a handmade treasure when you're done! 

Bishop Dress $60 plus supplies. 4 sessions, Tuesday, May 28, June 4, 11 and 18, 
6:00-8:00 p.m. 
Make a sweet smocked dress from start to finish, even if you've never sewn before! If you are an experienced seamstress, there will be lots of new techniques to learn. This is a great first smocking project. Supply list provided when you register. Instructor: Martha Neely 

Smocking Workshop - $10.00 per session 
Thursdays 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Knitting Socks using the Magic loop--Top down $45 plus supplies. 3 sessions. 
Thursday, May 9, 16 and 23, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Sock knitting is the perfect take-along project! In this class you will learn to knit socks from the cuff down using a long circular needle. You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and rib.

First Project Class - $45 plus supplies. 4 sessions. 
Thursday, May 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. 
The next class after beginning knitting. Learn to make a sweater, you’ll get help all along the way to complete your first project! Instructor: Kathy Parcell.

Learn to make a T shirt quilt! Theresa makes these quilts professionally, so you'll get great tips to make your t-shirt quilt the best! Instructor: Theresa Johnston-Crews.

Happy Friday!  Hope you get some stitching time this weekend!  I'm off to work on a sweater AND a french handsewn bonnet (new class coming up!).  Shirley is working on a new snowman quilt and Jandell is making a new cap-sleeved ready-to-smock bishop AND knitting on her sweater.  We're both making Vodka Lemonade-- it's a sweater pattern, not a drink!!

Learn the basics of embroidery while making this cute dishtowel or bread cloth.  You will learn the technique for binding dishtowel or receiving blanket with fabric.

Beginning Embroidery Part 2 $30 plus supplies.  Saturday, April 27,  10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Learn more stitches while working a design that can be used on another dishtowel or child’s bodice or skirt.

Mary De or Amy Sundress or Jumper $60 plus supplies for 4 sessions. Tuesday, April 9, 16, 23, and 30, 6-8:30 p.m.
These two styles are favorites for summer sundresses and cool weather jumpers.  The construction is easy enough for a beginner.  Both can be made with smocking or without.

Knitting Classes

Niche Sweater - $45 plus supplies. 4 sessions. Saturday, April 13, 27, May 11 and 25, 10:00 – 12:00 noon.

Knitting Socks using the Magic loop—Toe-up $45 plus supplies. 2 sessions. 
Friday April 12 and 19, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
 Adventurous Intermediate level: You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, and decrease and be able to do the Magic Loop method.
Sock knitting is the perfect take-along project!  In this class you will learn to knit socks using a long circular needle.  If you have taken the cuff-down magic loop class, you will enjoy making this sock with or without cables.  Come see the example!

Quilting Classes

Beginner Baby Quilt.  $75 plus supplies. 4 sessions, Tuesday, April 16, 23, 30 and May 7, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Class is limited to 4 students.  
You will learn about color and value so you can pick out your fabrics after the first class if you like. Kathleen will teach you how to rotary cut and strip piece.  We will set the quilt and add borders.  This is a great class for true beginners or confident beginners who want to pick up some helpful tips.  Kathleen will have a supply list for you at the first class with all her "favorite tools."  Instructor: Kathleen Baden.


Beginning Hand Appliqué 1 session, $50 (includes kit) Saturday, April 13, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
This three hour class will cover the basics of hand appliqué. You will go home with a very useful and beautiful needle case.  Kathleen will teach you how to make bias stem, work with freezer paper templates, turn perfect leaf points and make beautiful circles!  Everything you need will be provided in the class kit.  Limit 4. The Gentle Life

Beginner Wool Applique 2 sessions. $50 plus  supplies.  Wednesday, April 3 and 10, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.    
Come learn  how to appliqué with wool and embroider in this technique class.  “A Gentle Life” is a wonderful verse which can be framed or finished as you choose.  Wool applique’ is lots of fun.  Instructor: Kathleen Baden.

Wool Applique Workshops
Join Kathleen once a month for her wool applique workshop.  She has openings in her second Wednesday evening class (6:00 until 8:00).  Come see the beautiful wool samples in the shop.  Wool applique is fun, fast and addictive!  $20 per class.

Kaleidoscope   3 classes. $25 per class plus supplies, 10:00 – 12:00 noon. Thursday, April 25, May 2 and 16
This traditional quilt is a classic!  Come take Kathleen's 3-week piecing class.  She'll have samples using different finished blocks sizes and fabrics. You'll pick fabrics in the first class and learn how to cut the pieces using a great ruler from Marti Michelle.  The look you get depends on the fabrics you choose and the light/dark combinations.  This quilt is challenging and very rewarding!  Kits are available if you like the shop sample and you can add from your own stash.  Come join us! New! Big Stitch Hand Quilting 1 class. $60, Thursday, May 2, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Come learn what all the excitement is about in this hand quilting class. The 36” square top, batting and backing will be prepped and is included in the class fee. Two students maximum. Students will also need a hoop, needles and thread.  Come by the shop and see the sample. Instructor: Kathleen Baden

March Class Schedule

Apron Dress or Bubble $50 plus supplies. 4 sessions, Tuesday, March 12, 19, 16, and April 9, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Using the Children’s Corner Carol or Maja’s Corey Bubble, make a cute garment with a smocked panel in the front. This is a great first smocking project for a boy or girl. Beginner sewers can make this without the smocking!

This three hour class will cover the basics of hand appliqué. You will go home with a very useful and beautiful needle case. Kathleen will teach you how to make bias stem, work with freezer paper templates, turn perfect leaf points and make beautiful circles! Everything you need will be provided in the class kit. Limit 4. This class teaches the basics of machine piecing. Learn how to select colors, strip cut, chain piece, and add mitered borders. You'll learn lots and end up with a beautiful 9-patch quilt. 
Instructor: Theresa Johnston-Crews.

Make the little boy or girl in your life this classic garment for spring or summer.  You’ll learn how to insert a smocked piece into any garment!   Add a blouse or turtleneck and make a great cool weather garment with the same pattern.

Knitting Classes

Beginning Knitting  $45 plus supplies.  4 sessions. 
Monday, January 14, 21, 28 and February 4, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00noon
Learn the basics of knitting!  You will learn to knit and purl, do many pattern stitches and follow a pattern. You will be ready to begin a project of your choice after this class.

Flip-Top Mittens $45 plus supplies.  3 sessions, Thursday, January 10, 17, and 24, 6-8 p.m.
These cute and practical mittens are knitted flat and sewn together.  You’ll learn shaping, seaming, and duplicate stitch embroidery.  You must know how to cast-on, knit, purl, and rib.

Knitting Socks using the Magic Loop--Top down $45 plus supplies. 3 sessions, Saturday, January 12, 19 and February 2, 10:00 – 12:00 p.m.
Sock knitting is the perfect take-along project! In this class you will learn to knit socks from the cuff down using a long circular needle. You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and rib.

Knitting Workshop  $10 for 1 session or $30 for 4 sessions:
Monday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (no class on third Monday each month) or

Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. or
Thursday 1:00-3:00 p.m. or
Friday 10:00 a.m. – noon
This is the “clinic” for all your knitting emergencies! Get help on your project or pick a new technique to learn.  For those who already know the basics.    
You must call to register for workshop each week, space is limited.

Quilting Classes

Beginning Hand Appliqué 1 session, $50 (includes kit) Monday, January 14, 9:30 – 12:30p.m.
This three hour class will cover the basics of hand appliqué. You will go home with a very useful and beautiful needlecase. Click here and here to see the sample! Kathleen will teach you how to make bias stem, work with freezer paper templates, turn perfect leaf points and make beautiful circles!  Everything you need will be provided in the class kit.  Limit 4. Beginner 9-Patch $ 65 plus supplies. 4 sessions, Thursday, January 10, 17, 31 and February 7, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
This class teaches the basics of machine piecing. Learn how to select colors, strip cut, chain piece, and add mitered borders. You'll learn lots and end up with a beautiful 9-patch quilt.

A Gentle Life

Beginner Wool Applique 2 sessions. $50 plus  supplies.    Wednesday, January 16 and 23, 10:00 – 12:00 noon   
Come learn  how to appliqué with wool and embroider in this technique class.  “A Gentle Life” is a wonderful verse which can be framed or finished as you choose.  Wool applique’ is lots of fun.  Instructor: Kathleen Baden.

Bless This House  Eleven month block of the month.  $25 per month plus supplies. Second Sunday each month beginning February, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
 Kathleen will have applique tips and suggestions each month along with the full sized patterns and your very own freezer paper templates.  Come see the "remake" in the shop.  Monthly kits are available.

Wool Applique Workshops
Join Kathleen once a month for her wool applique workshop.  She has openings in her second Wednesday evening class (6:00 until 8:00).  Come see the beautiful wool samples in the shop.  Wool applique is fun, fast and addictive!  $20 per class.

Serendipity Sampler
Serendipity Sampler $25 per month. 5 sessions.  3rd Friday beginning in January 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  0r 2nd Saturday beginning in January 10:30 – 12:30
Kim Diehl's Serendipity Sampler is a 5-month applique block of the month, perfect for the advanced beginner appliquer.  Kathleen will have some great tips on everything from circles to bias stem.  She will have the full-sized patterns and templates for each class.  The shop will have the book and kits are available.  Stop by and see the sample!  Instructor: Kathleen Baden

Beginner Baby Quilt  $75 plus supplies. 4 sessions, Wednesday, January 9, 16, 23 and 30, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Max of 4 people.  


You will learn about color and value so you can pick out your fabrics after the first class if you like. I will teach you how to rotary cut and strip piece.  We will set the quilt and add borders.  This is a great class for true beginners or confident beginners who want to pick up some helpful tips.  I'll have a supply list for you at the first class with all my "favorite tools."  Instructor: Kathleen Baden.
