The bottle bag is made of Chesapeake by Classic Elite.  We have a good amount in stock so we decided to put it on sale today through Saturday 12/22 for 25% off!  The colors are beautiful and the wool/cotton blend is just right for our climate.

Stop by soon while we have a good selection of colors, and remember that the Quilt Raffle to benefit Samaritan Ministries ends Friday, December 21!!  Details can be found here.

Have a great week and try to find a little time during the hustle and bustle to take a few stitches!

New Fabric Friday

First up today is Madrona Road. by Michael Miller.  These fabrics are from the line selected by the Modern Quilt Guild for their 2012/2013 Quilt Challenge

My friend Linda made this cute skirt for her granddaughter from the line.

We've also gotten in two collections from Moda that coordinate:  Simply Color by V & Co. and Cuzco by Kate Spain

Not to rush the season (according to my friend Patsy Easter is March 31!), but today the UPS man brought us this from Aneela Hoey:

Now it's time to finish up my Christmas projects so that I can get sewing.

Hope you can take time to stitch this weekend!

It only takes a penny...

Our Penny Campaign for Samaritan Ministries is going well!  Each teacher's jar is filling up. Donations are being accepted through December 21st. Kathleen came in first last year with the most votes.  The other teachers and Jandell, Shirley and Susann are trying to unseat her.

However, Kathleen has gone above and beyond by donating the gorgeous quilt pictured here.  We are selling raffle tickets for this quilt through December 21 at 6 p.m.  Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 with 100% of all monies going to Samaritan Ministries!  Kathleen hand appliqued this quilt and it is beautifully custom quilted by Rosemary Cushman.

Stop by the shop now through December 21st to by your raffle tickets and vote for your favorite teacher or helper.  Remember, 100% of all money raised goes to Samaritan Ministries.

See you soon,
Martha

December Dream Club

The  Dream Club yarn for December is here!  I'll let Veronica from Dream in Color tell you about it:

This month’s yarn base is one of the highest quality, luxury base yarns that we have ever had created just for us.  "Perfectly Posh" fingering is a buttery soft single ply that has amazing loft and bloom. All of the fibers used in this yarn are top quality, especially the mohair, which is the finest, softest mohair available anywhere. The fiber combination of this yarn is 70% wool, 10% cashmere, 10% silk, 10% kid mohair - 360 yards per 100 gram skein.

The exclusive pattern is a cute shoulder wrap and I'm thinking about cowl patterns...

This one will go fast for both knitters and  gifters (my computer says that gifter is not a word, but that is someone who will buy the knitter yarn for a gift --hope you know one) !

 See you SOON!

Make Friends with Your Machine

Shirley is a magnificent machine appliquer (my computer says that this is not a word, but what else would you call someone who appliques?).  She made a glorious Autumn Wheelbarrow that you can see on the Knit One Smock Too Facebook page or here on our Flickr site.

She is working on this kit from Edyta Sitar from Moda Fabrics. Click here to jump over to the Moda blog to see the finished project.  We have two of these kits available in the shop.  They come with all the pieces diecut and fusible, placed in individual packets for each block and border!  We also have the Aurifil thread set that coordinates with the Edyta Sitar batiks. The Aurifil link has two videos with Edyta showing the thread collection and the finished quilt that Shirley is working on.

Come by the shop to see Shirley's applique work in person. You be amazed at how she can make that machine go and do.  Purchase one of these fabulous kits and ask her for a tip or two. You'll make friends with your machine too!

Best Laid Plans...

I couldn't let the summer end without a final report on my Olympic needlework projects, the projects that I wrote about here in the previous post.

When the closing ceremony ended my appliqued quilt square--Finished!

Smocked dress--not even started yet.  Soon...

Owlie socks--completed to the heel flap. So cute! I love those little blue-eyed owls.  BUT when I slipped them on they were way too tight!  So I ripped them back to the ribbing and went to a bigger needle.  I just got back to the same spot, so onward!

I also finished this pretty cowl made of ladder yarn and Kidsilk Haze.  I used Christine's Easy Drop Stitch Scarf (find it under free patterns on her blog) and a size 11 needle.

And I almost finished this pattern made of Berroco Linsey.  Photo to follow soon, I promise! I actually finished it, wore it to the shop one day and roasted.  The sleeves were too full and didn't end at quite the right spot, so they have been ripped back and are being reworked.  I know it will be great to wear as soon as the temps hit below 80 degrees!

The cowl, sweater and applique were my sanity-saving projects while sitting with my mother in the hospital.  It's amazing how keeping my hands busy can get me through stressful events. Plus handwork is so soothing and calming.  Thanks to all for the kind words and prayers during this time.  That also helps so much.

Leave a comment and let me know what you've been working on lately.

Take time to stitch this Labor Day weekend.  We'll be closed on Labor Day, but will be back rested and ready to go Tuesday morning!

Racing Needles

Have you selected a project to work on during the Olympics?  Many knitters are joining the Ravellenic Games amid some controversy (click here to read about it).

It's fun to start a project during the Opening Ceremonies and try to finish before the end of the Closing Ceremonies.
Being an indecisive multi-tasker, I am starting THREE projects! Does that make me a triathlete??
I am not trying to finish them all before we leave London, but I plan to get a large part of each done.  I'm not totally unrealistic!

Project One: Knitting--Owlie Socks.  Click here to see my Ravelry page for these socks.  Don't look at all the other unfinished projects I have listed there!  I can't wait to get to the beaded part!

Project Two: Smocking--Honeycomb Smocked Bishop. That is the piece of floral fabric on the right.  Obviously I haven't cut out the dress yet, so I'll sprint to the cutting table during commercials to cut out my fabric and sew my seams before I start smocking!

Project Three: Applique--Block 2 of this quilt.  All applique is glued to the background. Now my favorite part: the handsewing!

My hubby just called down to let me know that the Opening Ceremonies are beginning.  Leave a comment to let me know what YOUR Olympic project is.  If you put it in writing, you're committing to that project!  After all, I have narrowed my focus to just three projects for the next two weeks!  That is an Olympian accomplishment for me!!

Off to work on those Owlies!

Pins and tags

No, not THAT way!  We're busy safety-pinning these cute discs to bolts of fabrics as we get ready for tomorrow's sale!  All fabric will be 20% off, but the pinned fabric is a steal!

All yarn is also 20% off, including the 20 DIFFERENT COLORS OF LADDER YARN that arrived Tuesday!  Many other yarns are marked with bigger circles and bigger discounts!

The sale runs July 5 through July 14.  Every afternoon from 4-6 p.m we'll be serving ice cream and our wonderful teachers will be showing off their summer projects, so stop by for a sweet treat.

New "Ladder" Yarn

Hope you are all enjoying the day!  I did some gardening this morning before it got too hot and now I'm spending the rest of the day in my sewing room!!

Take time to make a few stitches,

Have Needle, Will Travel!

Trip Projects

Are you planning a trip this summer?  If you're like me, you plan your "trip projects" before you plan your trip wardrobe!  I left for a BIG trip at the end of May--a long plane ride and then a two weeks sightseeing on a bus through the countryside.
I packed two embroidery projects and one knitting project in my carry on.  I pre-cut my embroidery floss so that I wouldn't have to carry scissors on the plane and downloaded my knitting pattern to my Kindle Fire. I thought I'd get lots done!  I forgot how tightly people are packed into planes now and bumpy the plane ride can be and how I would need to sleep some of the time...

Well, I came home with a few stitches made on one of my embroidery projects and half of my knitting project finished.  The only time I had to work was at the end of a looong day of touring, and easy knitting was all I had the energy for while watching a little TV with foreign subtitles before bed.  I did enjoy storing my pattern as a PDF on my Kindle: no piece of paper to keep up with!
My unfinished Wingspan
Wingspan has been a free Ravelry download for some time now and is such fun to knit!  Karen Johnson finished hers first and will be teaching this for us in July.  Come let her help you get started on your very own traveling Wingspan!
Karen's finished Wingspan!
I'm off to get caught up on my embroidery now!
Have a great day and take time to make a few stitches before the day is over,
