Could You Pass a Test if You were Hungry??

Dear Stitching Friends,

Yesterday we learned of a wonderful opportunity to help some children in need.

South Fork Elementary school is right down the street from us.  Many of you have helped us support their fabulous knitting club. Several of their hardworking, dedicated teachers are friends and customers of ours.

In a few weeks the South Fork students will begin their end-of -year testing. About 300 students will be tested over 5 days.  Many of these children come from low-income families and come to school hungry.

The Gordon Manor Neighbors and Businesses have gotten together to collect enough snacks for the children being tested to have a morning and afternoon snack each test day.  If you remember your multiplication tables, 300 children x 2 snacks per day x 5 days = 3000 snacks!!  So far, about 700 snacks have been donated.   A local Realtor, JoBeth Holliday has donated 1500 bottles of water to the cause.

We are collecting single serving packets of Animal crackers, Cheeze-it crackers, NutraGrain Bars and Gummy-type snacks.  All snacks must be nut- and peanut-free and individually wrapped.  We are accepting donations at the shop through May 10.  Come help us fill our laundry baskets to overflowing!

To thank you for your donation, we will give you a coupon for 25% off your next purchase in May.  Each box of snacks you donate also enters you in a drawing for a $50 Knit One Smock Too Gift Certificate.  The drawing will take place on May 11 and we will announce the winner and the number of snacks donated by you here on our  blog.

Thanks in advance for your generous support,

Martha, Shirley, Jandell and Susann
